Job Summary

A welcoming primary school in Burnley is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to provide mornings‑only support for a child with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding 1:1 role for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs. The role is to start as soon as possible.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with SEMH needs
  • Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Support the child to access lessons and engage in learning
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external agencies
  • Assist with tailored interventions and personalised learning plans
  • Maintain a calm, safe and structured environment
  • Build a trusting, supportive relationship with the child
  • Record observations and contribute to progress reviews

Essential Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Proven experience supporting children with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting
  • Strong behaviour‑support and de‑escalation skills
  • The ability to build positive, consistent relationships
  • Experience working in a primary school environment
  • An understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality

Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant are desirable, but experience is essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
