Teaching Assistant
Job description
Teaching Assistant - Autism & Complex Learning Needs
Full-Time | Term Time Only | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
Make a Real Difference Every Day
Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential?
Whether you already have experience supporting children with additional needs or are looking to take your first step into specialist education, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
We're seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting supporting young people with Autism and Complex Learning Needs. This is an incredibly rewarding role where you'll help students build confidence, develop independence and experience success both in and out of the classroom.
Why This Role Matters
Every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Many students within this specialist setting have faced significant challenges throughout their educational journey. With the right support, encouragement and consistency, they can make remarkable progress.
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, celebrate achievements and develop the skills they need for the future.
Important Information
Due to the school's rural location and limited public transport links, applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.
The Role
No two days are the same in this rewarding position.
You may be supporting learners within the classroom, working with small groups, or providing dedicated one-to-one support tailored to an individual student's needs.
While consistency is important, flexibility is essential. You'll have the opportunity to work across different classes, year groups and learning environments, ensuring every student receives the support they need to succeed.
About the Students
The school supports young people with a wide range of additional needs, including:
✅ Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
✅ ADHD and other co-existing needs
✅ Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
✅ Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
✅ Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
✅ Sensory processing and integration differences
✅ Challenging behaviour
✅ Histories of disrupted education and placement breakdowns
Every student is unique, and the school prides itself on providing personalised support that helps young people flourish.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is caring, patient and genuinely passionate about supporting young people.
You'll Need:
✔ A positive, resilient and nurturing approach
✔ A genuine interest in supporting students with additional needs
✔ Strong communication and teamwork skills
✔ The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
✔ A willingness to learn and adapt
✔ GCSE Maths and English at Grade C / Level 4 or above (essential)
✔ A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential)
Experience
Previous experience working with children or young people is beneficial but not essential. The school values attitude, commitment and a willingness to make a difference just as much as experience.
⏰ Working Hours
Monday to Thursday: 8:30am - 4:30pm
Friday: 8:30am - 4:00pm
Term Time Only (39 weeks per year)
Start Date: ASAP
What You'll Receive
✅ Temp-to-perm opportunity with excellent long-term career prospects
✅ Comprehensive training and ongoing professional development
✅ Supportive and welcoming staff team
✅ Valuable specialist education experience
✅ The opportunity to develop a rewarding career within SEND education
✅ The chance to make a genuine, lasting impact on young people's lives
