Learning Support Assistant – 1:1 Support (Primary)
Location: Durham Area
Contract: Full‑time, Term‑Time Only
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Start Date: Pending funding approval

Teaching Personnel are seeking a caring and experienced Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a primary‑aged pupil who benefits from additional help with memory, processing and confidence. This role is based within a supportive primary school in the Durham area and will involve working closely with staff to ensure the pupil remains engaged, organised and able to access learning throughout the school day.

The position will begin once funding is confirmed. As this is an agency placement, the school may adjust the duration depending on need; however, for the right candidate, the role is expected to be long‑term with the possibility of becoming permanent.


About You

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, ideally on a 1:1 basis
  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable
  • Calm, patient and nurturing in your approach
  • Able to maintain consistent routines and expectations
  • Confident using visuals, repetition and structured strategies
  • Reliable, proactive and able to work well as part of a team

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support during lessons and daily routines
  • Reinforcing learning using visuals, repetition and structured prompts
  • Supporting the pupil with focus, organisation and independence
  • Working alongside the class teacher and SENDCO to adapt strategies
  • Recording relevant notes and contributing to progress updates

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
