Location: Bridgend
Contract Type: Full-Time / Term-Time Only
Salary: From £92.63 per day

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming mainstream primary school in Bridgend. This friendly and inclusive mainstream primary school in Bridgend is committed to ensuring every child feels valued, supported and able to achieve their full potential. The school prides itself on its nurturing ethos, strong pastoral support and child-centred approach to learning.

This rewarding role involves providing tailored support to a pupil who requires additional emotional, behavioural and social guidance to help them engage positively with learning and school life.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, resilience and positive engagement.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to support pupil progress.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
  • Assist with classroom activities and interventions that support academic and personal development.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy and resilience.
  • Has strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Can remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
  • Is committed to helping every child achieve their full potential.
  • Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience (desirable but not essential).
