Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEMH (Key Stages 3 & 4)

School: Chiltern Way Academy, Basingstoke
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Chiltern Way Academy is seeking a caring and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our specialist secondary SEMH provision, supporting pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 (ages 11–16). This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who need additional emotional and behavioural support to succeed in education.

This role would suit an individual who is patient, adaptable and committed to building positive relationships with students who may have experienced challenges in mainstream settings.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the wider pastoral team to support learning, behaviour and emotional regulation within the classroom and across the school day. You will help create a calm, consistent and supportive environment that enables pupils to engage positively with education.

Students you support may present with:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Challenges with emotional regulation and behaviour

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

  • ADHD

  • Trauma, attachment difficulties and anxiety

  • Gaps in prior learning and low confidence in education

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils individually and in small groups

  • Assisting with the delivery of lessons and learning activities

  • Helping students to regulate emotions and behaviour

  • Promoting positive behaviour through restorative approaches

  • Supporting personal, social and emotional development

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and therapeutic professionals
