Job description

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant who has experience in working with children who are visually impaired.

You will be part of a new, and small but expanding team of specialist LSAs supporting children with visual impairments across schools within the Vale of Glamorgan Council. This role is permanent and would start in September 2026, and is full time for the full academic year 2026.


In this role, your primary responsibility will be to produce accurate, high‑quality Braille and tactile learning materials for children and young people with vision impairment, ensuring they have full access to the curriculum and can participate meaningfully in their learning. Ultimately as a Braille technician role who can work remotely from our base room on a scheduled timetable. 


You will also work on a 1:1 basis with pupils to support their access through tactile resources, Braille, enlarged print, and other adapted materials, as well as enabling their engagement in the wider life of the school. Some pupils may require highly specialised and detailed support in specific areas, and you will play a key role in meeting those individual needs. 


You will work under the guidance of a Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI), a Qualified Teacher for Multi-Sensory Impairment (QTMSI), and a Habilitation Officer. You will also collaborate closely with ALNCos, class and subject teachers, and members of the school leadership team to support a range of pupils with visual impairments in accessing learning and participating fully in school life. 


You will contribute to the planning cycle alongside the QTVI or QTMSI and Habilitation Officer, and class or subject teachers to ensure that pupils with visual impairments receive equitable access to learning opportunities which they are legal obliged to receive.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
