Job description

We are working with a specialist school in Tameside to recruit full-time SEMH Teaching Assistants to support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. These are long-term roles starting immediately, ideal for those looking to make a lasting impact on young people facing barriers to education.

Role Overview:

  • Support pupils aged 5–16 with SEMH needs, including anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, and behavioural challenges

  • Work alongside experienced teachers to manage classroom behaviour and create a positive learning environment

  • Help pupils develop key life skills such as emotional regulation, resilience, and social interaction

  • Deliver structured support during lessons, break times, and transition periods

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or in a PRU, alternative provision, or care setting

  • Confident managing challenging behaviour with a calm and consistent approach

  • Available Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

Desirable:

  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training

  • Experience working with trauma-informed or attachment-aware practices

  • Resilient, proactive, and committed to supporting vulnerable learners

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time, long-term role – part-time is not available

  • Candidates must be based in the UK and ready to start promptly

  • All offers subject to enhanced DBS on the Update Service, safeguarding training, and two recent references

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
