Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH school in Blackburn to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Science to join their team from September 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly supportive specialist setting that provides education for young people aged 8-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is committed to transforming the lives of its pupils through high-quality teaching, therapeutic support, and strong relationships.
The Role
The successful candidate will deliver engaging and differentiated Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, inspiring pupils to develop curiosity, confidence and a genuine interest in the world around them. You will play a key role in supporting pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning, helping them achieve both academically and personally.
Science is a valued subject within the curriculum, with a strong emphasis on practical investigation, developing scientific literacy, and helping pupils understand the relevance of science in everyday life. Pupils follow National Curriculum programmes and work towards Entry Level and GCSE Science qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality Science lessons that meet the needs of pupils with SEMH.
- Create a safe, engaging and supportive learning environment.
- Foster positive relationships that promote confidence, resilience and achievement.
- Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching approaches where necessary.
- Contribute to pastoral support and act as a positive role model for pupils.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams and wider professionals.
- Support the school's commitment to high expectations for both behaviour and academic achievement.
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching Science across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed approaches, or a strong desire to develop expertise in this area.
- Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate learners who may have experienced challenges within education.
- Commitment to inclusive practice and raising aspirations for all pupils.
- ECTs with relevant experience and a passion for specialist education are encouraged to apply.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
