Support Worker – Secondary PRU (SEMH)
Location: Liverpool
Contract: Full-time | Temp-to-Perm
Start Date: ASAP
We are currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient Support Worker to join a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Liverpool. This is a full-time, temp-to-perm opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.
The Role:
As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students aged 11–16 who require additional behavioural, emotional and academic support. Working closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team, you will help create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Supporting students with challenging behaviour, using positive behaviour management strategies
- Assisting pupils to access the curriculum and engage in learning
- Building positive, consistent relationships with students
- Supporting emotional regulation and social development
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and external professionals
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with SEMH and challenging behaviour (essential)
- A background in support work, care, youth work, or similar roles (highly desirable due to transferable skill set)
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A calm, patient and resilient approach
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Ability to work full-time and commit to a long-term role

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
