Sports & PE Background SEMH Teaching Assistant
Teaching Personnel are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with a Sports or PE background to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in the Accrington/Oswaldtwistle area.
This is a temporary agency position, offering an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about using sport and physical activity to engage young people, build positive relationships, and promote confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
The successful candidate will work closely with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them overcome barriers to learning while encouraging resilience, teamwork and self-esteem. Your experience in sport, coaching or physical education will be invaluable in delivering positive behaviour strategies, supporting participation in practical activities, and acting as a positive role model.
The role includes:
- Supporting students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
- Using sport and physical activity as a tool to improve engagement, behaviour and wellbeing.
- Assisting teachers with classroom learning and practical PE lessons where appropriate.
- Promoting positive behaviour and helping students develop social and emotional skills.
- Building strong, trusting relationships with students, staff and families.
- Contributing to a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A background in Sports, PE, coaching or a related field.
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally those with additional needs or challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Patience, resilience and a proactive approach.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
