Are you a Sports Graduate looking to gain experience working in a secondary school before progressing into teacher training, coaching, youth work, behaviour support, or pastoral roles?

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a motivated and energetic Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant to support pupils in secondary schools across Blaenau Gwent. This role is ideal for graduates who enjoy working with young people and want to build valuable classroom experience, behaviour support skills, and school-based experience.

Many graduates use this opportunity as a pathway into PGCE, teacher training, PE teaching, or wider education careers.


Role: Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant (Secondary Schools)

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will support teachers and pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, helping students stay engaged, confident, and focused throughout the school day.

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting pupils in lessons across the secondary curriculum
• Providing behaviour support and classroom support
• Working with small groups of pupils to improve engagement and confidence
• Acting as a positive role model within school
• Supporting pupils who benefit from additional structure and encouragement
• Assisting teaching staff with learning activities and classroom organisation

This is a practical and rewarding role ideal for graduates seeking school-based experience in Blaenau Gwent secondary schools.


Ideal Candidate – Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant

This role would suit applicants with:

• A Sports degree or strong sporting background
• Experience in sports coaching, mentoring, youth work, tutoring, or behaviour support
• Confidence working with secondary-aged pupils
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Interest in careers such as teaching, PE teaching, pastoral support, or education psychology

Requirements

To work as a Teaching Assistant in Blaenau Gwent secondary schools, applicants must:

• Hold (or be willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS certificate
• Be registered with Teaching Personnel
• Have a genuine interest in supporting young people in education
Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle (essential due to travel between secondary schools across Blaenau Gwent)
