About the Role

Teaching Personnel are recruiting a motivated and enthusiastic Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant to support students in secondary schools across Newport.

This role is perfect for graduates in Sports Science, Physical Education, Coaching, or related fields who want to transition into teaching, youth work, or education support.

You’ll use sport-based engagement strategies to help students improve behaviour, boost confidence, and succeed academically.

Key Responsibilities

• Classroom Support – Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons across subjects, incorporating physical activity where appropriate
• 1:1 & Small Group Support – Work with disengaged or SEN students to improve focus, behaviour, and attainment
• Sport-Based Learning – Use coaching techniques and physical activity to support learning and engagement
• Behaviour Management – Promote positive behaviour strategies and support classroom routines
• Student Wellbeing – Provide emotional and pastoral support to help students build confidence and resilience
• Promote Healthy Lifestyles – Encourage fitness, teamwork, and participation in physical activity

Requirements

• Degree in Sports, PE, Coaching, or a related subject (preferred)
• EWC Registration (or willingness to apply)
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain – support provided)
• Right to work in the UK
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Passion for working with young people in an educational setting
