A specialist SEMH provision in the Low Bentham area is seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join their team after October half-term. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who is passionate about making a lasting difference.

The setting provides a nurturing, trauma-informed environment for pupils who may have experienced adverse childhood experiences, attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, and barriers to learning. Staff work closely with learners to build trust, develop positive relationships, and support both academic and personal progress.

The Role

• Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis
• Build strong, positive relationships with young people who may display challenging behaviours
• Implement trauma-informed approaches to support emotional regulation and engagement
• Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider staff team to create a safe and supportive learning environment
• Encourage personal development, resilience, confidence, and independence
• Support pupils to access learning and achieve their individual targets

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural needs, or within a care/support setting
• A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and relationship-based approaches
• Calm, patient, and resilient under pressure
• Able to establish clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing approach
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable learners to achieve positive outcomes
• Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential for candidates with the right experience
