1:1 Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEMH School

Location: Warrington
Contract: Full time
Salary: Competitive and based on experience
Start date: Immediate 

We are working with a specialist secondary SEMH school in the Warrington area that is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 10 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD.

This young person requires consistent, patient support to help with focus, emotional regulation, routines, and positive engagement with learning. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful difference during a crucial stage of a young person’s education.


The Role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide tailored support throughout the school day, helping the pupil access learning, manage behaviour positively, and feel safe and understood within the school environment.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 support in lessons to help the student remain engaged and on task
  • Supporting emotional regulation, impulse control and behaviour management linked to ASC and ADHD
  • Implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
  • Supporting transitions between lessons and around the school site
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive self‑esteem
  • Adapting learning tasks with guidance from teaching staff
  • Building a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil through consistency and clear boundaries
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams
  • Ensuring safeguarding, wellbeing and safety are always prioritised

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people with ASC, ADHD, SEMH or behavioural needs
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Confidence supporting secondary‑age pupils (especially KS4)
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive mindset
  • Ability to remain positive and consistent during challenging moments
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people

(Experience in SEMH settings, youth work, care, or behaviour support is highly desirable but not essential.)
