Job description

SEND Teaching Assistant – Make a Real Difference This time (Norwich, Norfolk)

Some children don’t just need support, they need someone who truly gets them.

If you’re the kind of person who notices the small things, the quiet signs of overwhelm, the moments when a child just needs a steady, reassuring presence, this could be the role for you.

We’re working with a welcoming school in Norwich, within Norfolk, looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism, SEMH, and ADHD. It’s a role where patience matters, consistency counts, and your ability to build trust can change the course of a child’s day.

Here’s where you come in…

You’ll be that calm, familiar face in the classroom, helping pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn, even on the tougher days.

From guiding them through routines to helping them navigate big emotions, you’ll play a key role in creating a space where every child feels they belong.

What your days might look like:

• Supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH needs, and ADHD during lessons and structured activities
• Helping children manage transitions and feel more confident in their daily routine
• Using clear, calm communication to keep learning accessible and engaging
• Spotting when a pupil is overwhelmed and helping them regulate in a supportive way
• Encouraging focus, celebrating small wins, and building confidence step by step
• Working closely with teachers and SEND staff to keep the classroom inclusive and nurturing

What makes you a great fit:

• You’re naturally patient, empathetic, and approachable
• You understand that behaviour is communication
• You’ve worked with children or young people before, in any setting that required care and understanding
• You bring a calm, consistent energy that helps others feel at ease
• You know that progress isn’t always linear, and you celebrate it anyway

Why this role matters, especially now

The summer term can be a big one for pupils with additional needs. Routines shift, emotions can run high, and the right support makes all the difference.

Your presence could be what helps a child feel secure enough to engage, take part, and finish the school year feeling proud of how far they’ve come.
