SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Bedford MK40/ MK41 / MK42 /MK44

Pay: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-time / Part-time – Term Time Only

Start Date: Immediate / Ongoing opportunities available

We are currently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to support a number of welcoming and inclusive schools in the MK42 area of Bedford. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and helping them thrive in a supportive learning environment.

The Role:As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to provide 1:1 support or small group assistance for pupils with additional needs. You will help adapt classroom activities, encourage engagement in learning, and support pupils’ emotional and social development.

Pupils may have a range of needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEN

  • Assist teachers with adapting learning activities to suit individual needs

  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in lessons

  • Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and confidence

  • Help create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and school staff

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people (school experience desirable but not essential)

  • Understanding of SEN or a strong interest in supporting pupils with additional needs

  • Patient, caring, and proactive approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, or support work are advantageous

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
