SEND Teaching Assistant – Barnstaple, Devon

Role: SEND Teaching Assistant
Pay Rate: £95–£105 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

The Role:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs
• Support pupils with complex learning and communication needs
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging and personalised learning activities
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, communication, and social development
• Promote independence, confidence, and positive relationships
• Support the implementation of EHCPs and individual support plans
• Use a patient and consistent approach to help pupils access learning
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, therapists, and other professionals
• Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
• Support pupils with developing essential life skills and independence

We’re Looking For:

• Previous SEND experience is desirable but not essential
• Experience working with children, young people, care, support work, or other transferable backgrounds
• A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• The ability to remain calm and positive when supporting challenging situations
• A genuine desire to make a difference to the lives of children and young people
• A willingness to learn and develop your skills within a specialist SEND environment
