SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 4 (KS2)

Full-Time | Term Time Only | Burscough

We are looking for a caring, patient, and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive Primary School in Preston. This full-time, term-time role involves working in a Year 4 (KS2) class, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs to help them succeed emotionally, socially, and academically.

This position is Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 3:15pm.

The school is well-regarded within the community and is known for its warm, supportive atmosphere. The Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team prioritise strong communication, collaboration, and a nurturing environment where both pupils and staff feel valued. Their goal is to ensure all children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.


About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Year 4, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with additional learning needs, including those with ADHD, ASD, communication difficulties, and SEMH needs. Working closely with the class teacher and SENDCo, you will provide targeted support, helping pupils to access the curriculum and thrive in the classroom.


Key Responsibilities

  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs
  • Supporting emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour
  • Assisting with intervention programmes and personalised learning plans
  • Adapting activities and resources to meet individual needs
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and engagement in learning
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDCo, and external professionals

Requirements

  • A minimum Level 2 qualification in Childcare, Teaching Assistant, or similar
  • Experience supporting children with SEN, ideally within a KS2 setting
  • Understanding of SEN strategies and how to scaffold learning effectively
  • Excellent communication, patience, and a nurturing approach
  • A proactive, flexible attitude and the ability to build strong, positive relationships

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
