Job description
Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate, resilient and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Alternative Provision in the Solihull area. This setting supports young people who have struggled to thrive in mainstream education and offers a structured, nurturing and highly personalised environment designed to re‑engage learners, build emotional stability and promote positive long‑term outcomes.
The provision is grounded in strong relationships, clear boundaries, restorative practice and a curriculum shaped around individual needs—including therapeutic input, vocational pathways and opportunities for personal development.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with Autism (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and ADHD, helping them access learning, regulate emotions and rebuild confidence. You will work 1:1, in small groups and within the classroom, using a relational, trauma‑informed approach that aligns with the values of high‑quality Alternative Provision.
You will also contribute to a curriculum that is purposeful, engaging and tailored to each learner—often incorporating practical learning, therapeutic strategies and personalised academic support.
Key Responsibilities

Provide individualised support to pupils with ASD, SEMH and ADHD.

Use trauma‑informed, relational approaches to help pupils regulate, engage and make positive choices.

Support delivery of a flexible, creative and personalised curriculum, including practical and vocational learning.

Build strong, trusting relationships that promote resilience, self‑esteem and emotional wellbeing.

Assist with implementing EHCPs, personalised support plans and Individual Pupil Profiles.

Support pupils during transitions, unstructured times and occasional off‑site activities.

Promote a calm, safe and consistent learning environment rooted in empathy and high expectations.

Help close learning gaps through targeted literacy, numeracy and communication support.
About You

Adaptable, proactive and able to respond to pupils’ individual needs.

Keen to learn, develop and embrace a holistic, nurturing approach to education.
Experience in SEN, behaviour mentoring, youth work or mental health support is desirable but not essential.
Requirements

Experience supporting children or vulnerable young people (school‑based experience desirable).

Willingness to complete a DBS check (or provide an updated version).

Two professional references.

Proof of right to work in the UK.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
