SEMH Teaching Assistant

We're looking for dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a specialist educational provision north of Norwich, supporting children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education. This is an opportunity to be part of a passionate team that helps pupils overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their potential.

About the School

This specialist provision supports up to 98 pupils from Year 1 through to Year 11, offering tailored educational pathways for children with a range of social, emotional, mental health, and behavioural needs. Through highly personalised programmes and close partnerships with families, carers, and the wider community, the school provides pupils with the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them engage with learning, regulate their emotions, and develop positive relationships.

Your Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional, mental health, and behavioural needs
  • Assisting with literacy, numeracy, and classroom learning activities
  • Building positive relationships that encourage engagement and confidence
  • Managing challenging behaviour using calm, consistent approaches
  • Providing structure, routine, and emotional support throughout the school day
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and support staff to deliver personalised learning plans

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Remains calm, resilient, and solution-focused under pressure
  • Has a confident and positive approach to behaviour management
  • Can build strong professional relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • Is proactive, flexible, and committed to supporting young people
  • Has experience working with children, young people, or individuals with additional needs (desirable but not essential)
  • Is passionate about helping vulnerable pupils achieve success

Driving Requirement

A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential.

Due to the location of the school and the nature of the role, candidates must be able to travel independently.
