SEN Teaching Assistant
Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a resilient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support students aged 11 to 16 within a well-regarded alternative provision in the New Milton area. This role focuses on secondary-aged learners and is available on both a full-time and part-time basis, with an immediate start available. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who require a more personalised and nurturing approach to education.
This provision is recognised for its supportive, structured and relationship-focused environment. Staff work closely with students to rebuild confidence, promote positive behaviour and re-engage learners with education. Strong leadership, clear routines and a child-centred ethos help create a calm and purposeful setting where every student is supported to make progress both academically and emotionally.
The Role
Working hours are 8.30am to 4pm. You will play a key role in supporting students throughout the school day, helping them to access learning and develop positive coping strategies.

Supporting students with SEMH needs within an alternative provision setting

Providing consistent one-to-one and small group support

Assisting students with emotional regulation, behaviour management and engagement

Supporting learning activities both in and out of the classroom

Building positive, trusting relationships with students and staff
Essential Requirements

A minimum of six months’ childcare experience
-
Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly SEMH needs

The ability to drive and access to transport due to the school’s location

A calm, patient and resilient approach
Pay and Benefits
The hourly rate for this position is £13.75 per hour.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
