Teaching Personnel are delighted to be working in partnership with a specialist ALN provision based within Cardiff that are seeking excellent, high-performing teaching assistants to work across a range of ages from 3 to 19.
This is a role which will include supporting young children and adults with complex and severe learning difficulties including ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome, and SEMH. As a result, this will be an extremely hands-on position that requires individuals with a ‘get stuck in’ mindset.
We are looking for pro-active individuals that can use their initiative in a fast-paced environment.
Role responsibilities:
- Support pupils across 1:1 and small group settings
- Assist with personal care, mobility, feeding, and medical routines for pupils where necessary
- Help pupils regulate emotions and maintain a calm, supportive environment.
- Use visual aids, communication systems, and positive behaviour strategies
- Support sensory‑based learning and outdoor learning
- Work with teachers, therapists, and families to deliver consistent support and follow specialist programmes.
Although previous experience in SEN environments is advantageous, it is NOT essential to be successful in shortlisting or for the role itself. The school have outlined that successful candidates can be:
- Psychology graduates
- Sports coaches/graduates
- Drama/theatre individuals
- Aspiring teachers
- Social workers/carers
Ideal candidates will:
- Have experience working with children with additional learning needs in specialist settings.
- Be patient, empathetic, and resilient when supporting pupils with complex needs.
- Be adaptable and confident in working across different provisions and age ranges.
- Possess strong communication skills to liaise effectively with staff, parents.
- Show initiative and creativity.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
