Job description

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join a specialist environment supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and a wide range of learning differences.

About the Role

As an SEN Teacher, you will lead a small, highly supported class of learners with diverse communication, emotional, sensory and academic needs. You will plan structured, differentiated lessons that promote engagement, regulation, and independence—while ensuring every pupil feels valued, understood, and safe.

You will play a key part in shaping holistic development, celebrating small wins, and supporting pupils to build the confidence and skills they need for life.


What You’ll Do

  • Deliver high-quality, individualised teaching tailored to ASC, SEMH and complex learning profiles
  • Use visual supports, sensory strategies, regulation breaks and structured routines
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils through consistency, empathy, and positive reinforcement
  • Lead and mentor a class team of teaching assistants
  • Work collaboratively with SEN specialists, therapists, pastoral staff and families
  • Track progress across academic, emotional, social and communication outcomes
  • Create a nurturing environment that encourages resilience, engagement and emotional wellbeing

Essential Requirements

PGCE with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)

A recognised PGCE (QTS) is required for this role.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (Adult & Child Workforce)

Candidates must hold a current Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, covering both Adult & Child workforce categories.

SEN Teaching Experience or Deep Passion for SEN

You should have:

  • Experience teaching learners with ASD, SEMH or complex needs OR a strong commitment and desire to specialise in SEN teaching
  • An understanding of therapeutic, trauma‑informed, or autism‑friendly approaches
  • A passion for unlocking potential and celebrating every step of progress
