SEN Teacher Opportunity – New Specialist School Opening in Andover
A new specialist SEMH school opening in the Andover area is seeking to appoint a dedicated and resilient SEN Teacher to join its founding team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in establishing a nurturing and ambitious learning environment for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The successful candidate will teach pupils aged 4–16, primarily within the primary phase, with opportunities to support secondary-aged learners where appropriate. Classes will be small, with high levels of support, enabling staff to provide personalised and therapeutic education tailored to individual needs.
The school will support pupils who may also present with additional learning difficulties and who may be working below age-related expectations. The provision will promote academic achievement alongside emotional wellbeing, resilience, and personal development.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet individual pupil needs

Establish a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment

Support pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours through positive and consistent behaviour strategies

Adapt teaching approaches for pupils working below age-related expectations

Build positive and professional relationships that encourage engagement, confidence, and progress

Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals

Monitor and assess pupil progress both academically and emotionally

Promote pupils’ wellbeing, resilience, and social development

Person Specification
Essential
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
-
Experience within a primary, SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision setting
-
Strong understanding of inclusive and adaptive teaching practices
-
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour
-
Calm, resilient, and flexible approach
Desirable
-
Experience working within SEMH or specialist settings
-
Knowledge of trauma-informed or restorative practices
-
Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs and/or autism

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
