SEN Teacher – A Rewarding Next Step for Mainstream Teachers
Location: Bristol, Bath & Glos
Salary: Competitive – often higher than mainstream (dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time / Permanent
Are you a mainstream teacher looking for something more?
Many teachers move into SEN education and say they wish they’d done it sooner.
If you’re feeling stretched by large class sizes, limited support, or increasing workload, teaching in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school could be the refreshing and rewarding change you’re looking for.
Why SEN Teaching?
SEN schools offer a very different teaching experience to mainstream settings:
-
Smaller class sizes – allowing you to truly teach, not just manage behaviour
-
High levels of classroom support – multiple Teaching Assistants working alongside you
-
More competitive pay – SEN roles often attract higher salaries
-
Time to build meaningful relationships with pupils
-
A calmer, more structured environment designed to support both staff and students
Many of our teachers come from mainstream primary or secondary backgrounds and receive full support as they transition into SEN.
The Role
You will:
-
Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs
-
Work closely with experienced TAs and support staff
-
Help pupils achieve both academic progress and life skills
-
Be part of a collaborative, supportive staff team
Who We’re Looking For
-
Qualified Teachers (QTS) – SEN experience not essential
-
Primary or Secondary mainstream teachers open to a new challenge
-
Teachers who value teamwork and strong classroom support
-
Passionate educators who want to make a real, lasting impact
What We Offer
-
Higher pay than many mainstream roles
-
Excellent staff-to-student ratios
-
Ongoing training and SEN-specific CPD
-
Strong leadership and staff wellbeing focus
-
A role where your work genuinely changes lives
