SEMH Teaching Assistants needed

We are currently recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils at a specialist setting in Leyland, PR26. This is a fantastic opportunity for resilient, energetic and motivated individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.

The setting places a strong emphasis on outdoor education, physical activity and Forest School approaches, so this role is particularly suited to sporty individuals who enjoy being active and working outdoors in all weather conditions. You will support pupils both in and out of the classroom, helping them regulate emotions, manage behaviour and engage positively with learning.

Roles are available on an agency basis, with ad hoc shifts as well as full-time temporary positions for the right candidates.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support.
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to access education safely and positively.
  • Assisting with outdoor learning, Forest School and physical activities.
  • Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils.
  • Managing challenging behaviour using a calm and trauma-informed approach.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience or a strong interest in SEMH, behaviour support or youth work.
  • Be comfortable working outdoors as part of the curriculum.
  • Be reliable and flexible to meet the needs of the setting.
  • Be able to travel independently to the school in Leyland.

Previous experience in education, sports coaching, youth work, care or similar settings is highly desirable but not essential.

If you are passionate about making a real difference and thrive in a hands-on, active role, we would love to hear from you.
