Job description

Teaching Personnel are recruiting experienced SEMH Teaching Assistants for full-time positions in the Thornaby area, starting in September.

We are looking for committed, adaptable individuals who are eager to take the next step in their education career and who have a strong desire to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation in the classroom
  • Developing trusting relationships to boost confidence and engagement
  • Working collaboratively with teaching and pastoral teams
  • Helping to maintain a nurturing, structured and inclusive learning environment

What We’re Looking For

To be suitable for this role, you should have:

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or within an SEMH or behaviour-focused setting
  • Confidence in behaviour management strategies
  • A patient, consistent and resilient approach
  • A valid Child enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply – we can assist)
  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people to succeed in education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
