Teaching Assistant – SEMH Alternative Provision
Location: Lancing
Start Date: ASAP / Flexible
Contract: Full-time (Term-time only)
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Lancing, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This setting provides a supportive and structured environment for students who have struggled to engage in mainstream education, often due to behavioural challenges. The role is both rewarding and demanding, requiring patience, consistency, and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
The Role:
- Support students in and out of the classroom with their learning and development
- Work closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored support
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Support behaviour management in line with the school’s approach
- Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working with children or young people (ideally secondary age)
- Have experience with SEMH needs or a strong willingness to learn
- Be calm, patient, and resilient
- Be confident supporting behaviour and maintaining boundaries
- Be a positive role model with strong communication skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
