SEMH Teaching Assistant – Blackpool

Do you have a passion for supporting children facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges? Are you highly skilled in environments that require patience, empathy, and consistency?

A Blackpool-based mainstream primary school is searching for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team in September. The school provides a secure and structured environment for pupils aged 4-11 who require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour, and mental well-being. Our staff works closely with each child to develop trust, resilience, and confidence, creating a conducive space for effective learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Start date: 5th Jan
  • Contract: Long-term with potential for a permanent position
  • Salary: £89-95 per day (based on experience)

The role involves collaborating with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored interventions, both one-on-one and in small groups. These interventions may include emotional literacy sessions, sensory regulation, and creative activities designed to improve social skills and self-esteem. The SEMH Teaching Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining a calm and consistent learning environment during lessons, breaks, and transitions.

Requirements:

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience
  • Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs (in any setting)
  • A calm, nurturing, and resilient approach
  • Effective communication and de-escalation skills
  • Sound understanding of behaviour support strategies and trauma-informed practise

This role is ideal for experienced Teaching Assistants or Psychology graduates looking to make a meaningful impact in a professional setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
