Teaching Personnel is recruiting a passionate and dedicated SEMH Teacher to join a specialist education setting in Newton Abbot from September.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher who is committed to supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and making a lasting impact on their educational and personal development. The Role
You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEMH needs. Working closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that enables every pupil to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
About the Setting
This specialist provision supports children and young people who may experience:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Communication and interaction difficulties
- Attachment and trauma-related needs
- Barriers to learning resulting from adverse childhood experiences
The school provides a highly supportive and therapeutic approach, combining education, wellbeing, and pastoral support to help pupils build confidence, resilience, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Plan and implement personalised learning programmes.
- Monitor progress and contribute to EHCP reviews where appropriate.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, families, and professionals.
- Promote positive behaviour through a therapeutic and relational approach.
- Support pupils' emotional wellbeing, personal development, and life skills.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs, SEND, or challenging behaviours.
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
