Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Teacher to join our educational provision in Hillingdon. The role involves delivering high-quality teaching and support to pupils with SEMH needs, fostering their academic progress alongside their personal development. The successful candidate will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team to create a positive and inclusive learning environment tailored to the individual needs of each pupil.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
• Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans in collaboration with colleagues, parents and external agencies.
• Monitor and assess pupils’ progress, adapting teaching strategies accordingly to ensure continuous improvement.
• Provide pastoral support that promotes pupils’ emotional wellbeing and resilience within the school setting.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil attainment, behaviour and attendance in line with school policies and statutory requirements.
• Work collaboratively with other professionals including senior leadership, support staff, therapists and external agencies to support holistic pupil development.
• Contribute to the development and evaluation of the SEMH curriculum and resources.
• Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment that encourages positive behaviour and pupil engagement.
• Attend and contribute to meetings, including those with parents and carers, to discuss pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to keep up to date with best practises and statutory guidance related to SEMH provision.

Required Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognised equivalent.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Education or a related field.

Education and Experience

• Proven experience of teaching pupils with SEMH needs within a school or specialist setting.
• Experience of planning and delivering differentiated lessons that address complex behavioural and emotional needs.
• Understanding of statutory frameworks relating to SEMH, safeguarding and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong knowledge of social, emotional and mental health difficulties and their impact on learning and behaviour.
• Ability to create positive, structured and nurturing learning environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage pupils, parents and colleagues effectively.
• Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
• Resilience and patience in managing challenging behaviour.
• Competence in using educational technology and software to support teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification or training in SEMH, special educational needs or educational psychology.
• Experience of multi-agency working and knowledge of external support services.
• Training in behaviour management techniques and therapeutic approaches.

Working Conditions

• Based within a school environment in Greater London, providing education to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Full-time hours with occasional requirement to attend meetings or events outside standard school hours.
• Regular interaction with pupils who may display challenging behaviours requiring a calm and patient approach.
• Collaborative team working with opportunities for professional development and career progression.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
