SEMH Support Assistant (KS1/KS2) – Outskirts of Truro

Teaching Personnel is working with a supportive primary school in Truro looking for a dedicated SEMH Support Assistant to join their team this September. This is a full-time, long-term role with genuine potential to become permanent for the right individual.
About the Role
This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils across KS1 and KS2 who require additional help with their social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
You will play a key role in helping pupils regulate emotions, build positive relationships, and re-engage with learning. This is a role where no two days are the same, but every day makes a difference.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning
- Acting as a positive role model, building strong and trusting relationships
- Implementing nurture-based and trauma-informed approaches
- Supporting children both inside and outside the classroom (including break/lunchtimes where required)
- Working closely with teachers and SENCo to deliver personalised support strategies
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH / SEN needs (school-based or transferable settings)
- A calm, patient, and resilient personality — able to de-escalate and support behaviour positively
- A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
- Understanding of (or willingness to learn) trauma-informed or nurture-based approaches
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Backgrounds in education, care, youth work or coaching are highly desirable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
