Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Wigan | Specialist Provision | Full-time (Starting September) | Teaching Personnel

Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking to secure a full-time role starting this September? Teaching Personnel is delighted to be supporting a specialist provision in Wigan that caters for pupils aged 7–16 years with additional learning needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), autism, and behavioural needs.

The Role

As a Full-time HLTA, you will support teaching and learning across the school, leading lessons where required and delivering targeted interventions. You will play a vital role in helping students reach their full potential in a structured and nurturing SEN environment.


✅ Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and supervise classes in the absence of the teacher
  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN, SEMH and autism
  • Lead small group interventions to support academic progress and emotional development
  • Support the implementation of EHCP targets and differentiated learning strategies
  • Utilise effective behaviour management techniques to create a positive learning environment
  • Monitor and track pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and senior staff
  • Build strong, supportive relationships that encourage engagement and confidence
  • Contribute to the overall inclusive and safe school environment

Requirements

To be considered for this HLTA job in Wigan, you will need:

  • A recognised HLTA qualification or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in a school, SEN setting, or education support role
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and pastoral support
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, ASC or complex learning needs
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to working in a fast-paced education environment
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people’s development and wellbeing
