SEMH 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Job description
Are you a passionate, enthusiastic and empathetic educator with a keen interest in supporting children with SEMH needs.
Teaching Personnel is working with a specialist SEMH provision within the Wigan area supporting student aged 11-16 with SEMH needs such as challenging behaviour, complex learning needs, anxiety and autism. With the students unable to attend mainstream school there is a key focus on reintegration and preparation for further education and work. We are looking for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant who has a passion for making a positive impact on the student they will support and are eager in aiding their social and academic development.
Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs, ensuring they can engage with learning activities.
- Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons and activities.
- Monitor and record progress, reporting to teaching staff and SENCO.
- Support the pupil in developing social skills and confidence within the school setting.
- Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to meet individual needs.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (essential).
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
- Right to Work in the UK.
- Professional references covering the last 24 months.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
