Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and resilient GCSE 1:1 Tutor to support young people within a specialist intervention setting in Leigh. This role focuses on working with students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to re-engage with education and achieve their GCSE qualifications.


The Role

As a 1:1 Tutor, you will work closely with students aged 11–16 (KS3–KS4) who require tailored academic and emotional support. You will deliver targeted GCSE-level intervention across core subjects, adapting your teaching to meet individual needs and learning styles.

This is a highly rewarding role suited to someone who is patient, adaptable, and passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.


✅ Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group GCSE tuition in core subjects (English, Maths, and/or Science)
  • Plan and adapt lessons in line with the national curriculum and individual learning needs
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and engage positively in learning
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to promote confidence, resilience, and academic progress
  • Monitor, assess and record student progress against targets
  • Implement behaviour management strategies tailored to SEMH challenges
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure a consistent and supportive approach

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Strong understanding of the GCSE curriculum (KS3/KS4 essential)
  • Experience delivering 1:1 tuition or intervention support
  • A valid DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Excellent communication, resilience, and behaviour management skills
  • A passion for supporting vulnerable learners and improving outcomes

Desirable

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant tutoring/teaching qualification
  • Experience working in alternative provision or intervention settings
