Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: South Manchester
Start Date: 23rd February (after Feb half term)
Contract: Full-time, Long-term (Temp to Perm opportunities available)
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, Term Time

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive secondary SEN provision to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11–16 with a range of special educational needs.

The school supports young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech, language and communication difficulties, and moderate learning difficulties. Pupils benefit from small class sizes, structured routines and consistent adult support to help them access learning and develop confidence.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, behaviour mentors and external professionals, all focused on creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

The Role Will Involve:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN
  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum through adapted and differentiated activities
  • Assisting with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in lessons
  • Implementing EHCP targets, learning plans and behaviour support strategies
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, transitions, break and lunchtime periods
  • Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive learning behaviours
  • Helping to maintain a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEN or additional needs (school-based or transferable experience welcomed)
  • Is patient, calm, resilient and empathetic
  • Is confident supporting challenging behaviour using positive strategies
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is proactive, reliable and able to work as part of a team
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs

Previous experience in a secondary school, alternative provision or specialist SEN setting is desirable but not essential — full training and ongoing support will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
