Contract: Full time

Teaching Personnel are looking for an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support in a specialist SEN secondary school in the Bolton area.

This school supports pupils with complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), ADHD, speech and language needs, and associated challenging behaviours. Many students require highly structured support, consistency, and a trauma-informed approach to learning.

The Role

As a HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development, working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to deliver tailored support both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and support learning activities across the secondary curriculum, adapting tasks to meet individual SEN needs
  • Lead 1:1 and small-group interventions to support academic progress, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Provide personal care where required, including toileting, feeding, and mobility support
  • Support students with behaviour regulation, implementing positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and assessment under the direction of teaching staff
  • Supervise classes during teacher absence when required, in line with HLTA responsibilities
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Work closely with multi-agency professionals and contribute to EHCP targets

Requirements

  • HLTA qualification (or equivalent Level 4 qualification) – essential
  • Proven experience working within a secondary SEN setting, preferably with complex needs
  • Confidence supporting students with challenging behaviour and additional care needs
  • A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel
