Your First Year – Gain Valuable School Experience

During the first year, you will work as a Cover Supervisor within a secondary school in Weymouth.

This will give you the opportunity to become part of a school community, develop your classroom management skills and gain first-hand experience of working with secondary-aged pupils.

As a Cover Supervisor, your responsibilities may include:

  • Delivering lessons using work and resources provided by teaching staff
  • Supervising classes and maintaining a positive learning environment

  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff
  • Observing lessons to develop your understanding of effective teaching
  • Taking part in training and professional development opportunities

The first year is designed to give you a strong foundation in school life and prepare you for the next stage of the programme.

Year Two – Progress Into Teacher Training

Following your successful first year, you will progress into formal teacher training while continuing to gain practical experience within a school.

You will work towards achieving:

  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

As your confidence and experience develops, you will gradually take on increased responsibility for planning and delivering lessons.

You will receive ongoing support and mentoring throughout your training, allowing you to develop your teaching practice and work towards becoming a qualified teacher.

What's on Offer?

  • £23,000–£27,000 salary
  • Fully funded PGCE and QTS
