Reception Teacher – Cardiff
Start Date: September
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Long-term (potential to extend) | Term-time only (approx. 12 weeks off per year)

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Reception Teacher to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Cardiff from September.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Early Years practitioner to play a key role in shaping children’s first experience of school and building strong foundations for their future learning.

The Role

You will take full responsibility for a Reception class, delivering engaging, creative, and developmentally appropriate lessons in line with the Early Years Foundation Phase. You will be supported by experienced Teaching Assistants and a collaborative senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons tailored to Reception pupils
  • Create a stimulating and nurturing classroom environment
  • Support children’s social, emotional, and academic development
  • Use a range of assessment strategies to track progress and inform planning
  • Work closely with support staff, parents, and the wider school team
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are always followed

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching within Early Years / Reception
  • Strong knowledge of the Foundation Phase curriculum
  • Excellent behaviour management skills
  • A creative, patient, and nurturing approach
  • Strong organisational and communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience supporting children with ALN/SEN
  • Phonics knowledge (e.g. Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds)
  • Experience in a similar school setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
