Reading Intervention Support Assistant
Job description
Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting Reading Intervention Support Assistants to join our bank of staff supporting secondary school pupils who require additional help with reading, comprehension, and literacy skills.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about improving literacy outcomes and supporting young people to access the secondary curriculum with confidence.
The Role
As a Reading Intervention Support Assistant, you will work with pupils aged 11–16 delivering targeted reading support on a one-to-one basis and in small groups. You will help pupils develop fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence in reading.
You will work closely with the SENCO, English department, and teaching staff to support pupils who are working below age-related expectations or who require additional literacy intervention.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver structured reading intervention sessions to secondary pupils

Support reading fluency, comprehension, and literacy development

Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

Support pupils with SEND, EAL, or literacy gaps

Monitor and record pupil progress

Encourage engagement, motivation, and confidence

Support pupils in accessing the wider curriculum
Requirements

Experience working with secondary-aged pupils or young people (preferred)

Strong literacy and communication skills

Patient, supportive, and adaptable approach

Passion for supporting young people’s learning and development
-
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply

Right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
