Job description

Make a Difference to Learners Who Need It Most

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and resilient Supply Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting from September on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity to support children and young people who require additional assistance to access education and achieve their full potential.

This role is offered on a supply basis initially, with the potential for longer-term opportunities and the possibility of securing a school-based contract for the right candidate.

About the Setting

The school is a specialist provision supporting learners from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4 who may face a range of additional needs and barriers to learning. Pupils may present with:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Anxiety and trauma-related needs
  • Attachment difficulties
  • Additional learning needs (ALN)

The school provides a highly nurturing, structured and supportive environment where positive relationships and personalised learning are at the heart of everything they do.

The Role

As a Supply Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting learners both academically and emotionally throughout the school day.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Assisting with the delivery of engaging learning activities
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with learners
  • Promoting positive behaviour strategies and emotional regulation
  • Supporting pupils with their social and emotional development
  • Working closely with teachers and wider multidisciplinary teams
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Responding calmly and effectively to challenging situations when required
  • Contributing to behaviour support plans and learner progress

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed approaches and relationship-based practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, resilient and proactive attitude
  • Confidence supporting learners across KS1–KS4
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team

Qualifications

Desirable:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
