Job description

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – WN6 Area (Wigan)

Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain practical experience working with young people?

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with several secondary schools across the WN6 area, including Orrell, Shevington and Standish, to appoint Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistants. These positions are ideal for graduates who are passionate about supporting students’ emotional and educational development and are considering a future career in education, mental health or youth support services.

What’s on offer:

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities depending on your availability.

  • Monthly earnings ranging from £1790 to £1900.

  • Access to a variety of school settings with supportive staff and training included.

  • A chance to build relevant experience for careers in teaching, counselling, or educational psychology.

This role is particularly suited to graduates who are empathetic, proactive, and eager to help pupils thrive both in and out of the classroom.

As a Psychology Graduate TA, you will:

  • Provide classroom-based support, assisting teachers with lesson delivery and behaviour management.

  • Work with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping them with both learning and emotional regulation.

  • Support pupils who have additional needs such as autism, ADHD, or social and emotional challenges.

  • Assist with targeted intervention sessions and wellbeing activities.

  • Help maintain a positive learning environment and build meaningful relationships with students.

No prior classroom experience is required – full support and on-the-job training will be provided. This is a fantastic stepping stone into a number of careers within education and psychology and offers genuine insight into the needs of young people in a school setting.

Schools are easily accessible via public transport, though having your own transport is a bonus, especially if you're open to working in surrounding areas such as Wigan, Chorley, Skelmersdale, and St Helens.
