HLTA – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Location: Manchester
Full-Time | September Start | Via Teaching Personnel
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant ready to step up into a HLTA role? Teaching Personnel is working with a specialist PRU in Manchester that is seeking a confident and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team full-time from September.
This alternative provision supports pupils aged 11–16 who are not currently in mainstream education. Many students present with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, and additional learning difficulties. The school provides a structured, supportive environment focused on re-engagement, resilience, and positive outcomes.
The Role
As a HLTA, you will:
- Deliver pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects
- Lead small group and 1:1 intervention to support learning and behaviour
- Support pupils with SEMH needs using a calm and consistent approach
- Manage behaviour effectively and encourage positive engagement
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals
- Help maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
- HLTA status or strong experience in a similar role
- Experience working in PRU, alternative provision, or with SEMH pupils
- Confident leading learning and managing behaviour independently
- Resilient, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
