Teaching Assistant – SEND (Autism Experience)
Location: Bishop Auckland
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
We are delighted to be working with a friendly and inclusive primary school in Bishop Auckland who are seeking a committed and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from January.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly Autism, who is passionate about helping children achieve their full potential in a nurturing and structured learning environment.
The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, particularly those with Autism
- Support pupils’ academic, social and emotional development
- Assist the class teacher with engaging lessons and activities
- Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual needs
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using consistent strategies
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, teaching assistants and senior leaders
- Collaborate with therapists and external professionals where appropriate
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you should:
- Have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role
- Have experience supporting pupils with SEND – essential
- Autism experience is essential
- Knowledge of additional needs such as ADHD – desirable
- Demonstrate patience, empathy and a calm, nurturing approach
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required
- Have strong communication skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
