Job description

Every Child Deserves Another Chance to Enjoy Education

Teaching Personnel is recruiting an experienced Primary SEMH Teacher for a specialist provision in Yeovil starting in October 2026.

The setting supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. The Yeovil provision caters for children from Year 1 upwards, working with pupils whose needs may place them at risk of permanent exclusion as well as children who have already been excluded while an appropriate longer-term placement is found.

We need a teacher who understands that behaviour, relationships and learning are closely connected.

What Does the Role Involve?

You will take responsibility for delivering engaging primary learning while creating the structure pupils need to settle, participate and make progress.

  • Planning accessible, motivating lessons
  • Adapting work around individual starting points
  • Creating clear routines and boundaries
  • Managing behaviour confidently and fairly
  • Supporting children's emotional and social development
  • Re-engaging pupils who may have struggled previously
  • Working closely with support colleagues
  • Celebrating progress, however small

The Person Behind the Teacher

Qualifications and classroom ability matter, but personality is crucial within SEMH education.

Students need an adult who is consistent without being confrontational, nurturing without lowering expectations and resilient when things become difficult.

We are therefore looking for an experienced teacher who understands challenging behaviour and can hit the ground running.

Previous work within primary education, SEND, SEMH, PRU or alternative provision would be highly beneficial. You should be comfortable adapting your approach because what works brilliantly for one child may not work for another.

The provision itself works to develop pupils' emotional resilience and reduce permanent exclusions

Benefits of Teaching with Teaching Personnel

  • Competitive weekly pay
  • Dedicated SEND consultant support
  • Access to professional development and CPD
  • Opportunities across specialist schools
  • Support throughout your placement
  • Refer-a-friend opportunities
  • Help finding future SEND career opportunities
