SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary SEN School

Location: Wigan
Agency: Teaching Personnel
Start Date: September | Contract: Full-Time

Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and making a real difference every day? Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary SEN school in Wigan this September. The school supports pupils with a range of needs including Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties and moderate to severe learning difficulties.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teachers and therapists to create a nurturing, engaging, and structured learning environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual learning plans
  • Assist the class teacher with delivering engaging, differentiated lessons
  • Support pupils with communication, behaviour, and emotional regulation
  • Help implement EHCPs and personalised strategies
  • Foster positive relationships to build trust and confidence in pupils
  • Track and report on pupil progress

Requirements

  • Experience working with children with SEN (school-based, care, or support work)
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
