Teaching Personnel are currently seeking a Specialist SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and well-resourced primary SEN provision in the Trafford area. This specialist setting supports children aged 4-11 with a range of moderate to complex additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), sensory processing needs, physical disabilities, and social, emotional and behavioural challenges.

The Role

As a Specialist SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists and other support professionals to provide tailored support to children with additional needs both inside and outside the classroom.

Your role will be key in helping pupils access learning, develop confidence and build essential communication and social skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Assist with the delivery of personalised learning activities and EHCP targets.
  • Encourage communication, social interaction and emotional development.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Support pupils with sensory regulation and engagement strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and celebrate achievements.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility support where required.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists and parents/carers.
  • Help create a safe, stimulating and positive learning environment.
  • Encourage pupil independence and confidence throughout the school day.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, either within education, care, youth work or similar settings.
  • Understanding of additional needs such as Autism, learning difficulties, communication needs or physical disabilities.
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children.
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Relevant qualifications are advantageous but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
