Primary School SEND Teaching Assistant
Job description
A mainstream primary school in Burnley is looking for a full‑time Teaching Assistant to join their specialist SEND Unit. This role is ideal for someone with strong experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and a passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children with SEND on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Deliver targeted interventions as directed by the SENCO and class teacher
- Assist with differentiated learning activities and behaviour support
- Promote inclusion within both the SEND unit and the wider school
- Help maintain accurate pupil records, observations, and progress notes
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and external agencies
- Contribute to a safe, positive, and nurturing learning environment
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience supporting children with SEND (essential)
- Understanding of common SEND needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or Speech & Language
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Patience, resilience, and a supportive approach
- Ability to follow individual education plans and behaviour plans
- A commitment to safeguarding and child welfare

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
