Job description

Qualified PE Teacher – Durham Secondary School MPS/UPS £32,916 – £51,048 | Long-Term Supply | September 2026

Sport has the ability to transform how a young person feels about school. Teaching Personnel is recruiting a qualified PE Teacher for a long-term supply position at a Durham secondary school from September 2026 — and we're looking for someone who understands that and brings it into everything they do.

This is a full subject specialist role within an active, well-resourced PE department. You'll be delivering across a broad range of physical activities at KS3 and KS4, setting high standards both on the field and in the sports hall, and contributing to a department that takes physical education seriously as a discipline — not just as a timetable filler.

If you have experience contributing to extracurricular sport or wider school enrichment activities, that will be looked upon very favourably.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for:

Planning and delivering engaging, curriculum-aligned PE lessons across KS3 and KS4. You'll assess and monitor student progress, support students of all abilities and confidence levels, maintain rigorous safety standards across all activities, and contribute to the broader sporting and extracurricular life of the school. Safeguarding responsibilities apply at all times.

The successful candidate will have:

  • QTS or equivalent — essential
  • A degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related discipline
  • Proven secondary teaching experience in PE
  • Broad subject knowledge across a range of sports and physical activities
  • A first aid qualification is desirable
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

With Teaching Personnel:

  • MPS/UPS salary — £32,916 to £51,048 depending on experience
  • Weekly pay via PAYE
  • Dedicated consultant support
  • Free CPD and professional development
  • Opportunities for permanent employment
