Job description

Job Title: Montessori Teacher

Role Overview

This role focuses on guiding children within an authentic Montessori environment that nurtures independence, concentration, and a natural curiosity for learning. The educator will support each child’s development through carefully prepared materials and experiences across the core Montessori areas.


Key Duties

Montessori Environment & Practice

  • Prepare and maintain a calm, orderly, and inviting Montessori classroom.
  • Present materials clearly and accurately, following Montessori principles.
  • Observe children closely to understand their interests and developmental needs.
  • Protect uninterrupted work periods to allow deep concentration.
  • Support mixed-age learning, encouraging collaboration and peer support.
  • Foster a respectful, peaceful, and inclusive classroom community.

Montessori Curriculum & Materials

  • Guide children through the five key Montessori curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Studies.
  • Ensure materials are complete, well-maintained, and beautifully presented.
  • Support children in developing independence through hands-on learning experiences.
  • Introduce sensorial materials to refine perception, coordination, and cognitive development.
  • Encourage purposeful activity that builds concentration, order, and self-discipline.

Child Development

  • Support the child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth through child-led learning.
  • Recognise developmental stages and respond to each child’s readiness.
  • Maintain accurate records of observations and progress.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with parents and caregivers.

Teamwork & Professional Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high standards of Montessori practice.
  • Support and mentor assistants within the classroom.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Montessori qualification relevant to the age group (0–3 or 3–6), ideally from a recognised provider such as AMI (Association Montessori Internationale).
  • Level 3 Early Years qualification (full and relevant).
  • Understanding of Montessori philosophy and child development principles.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices (training can be provided if needed).

Key Skills & Qualities

  • Strong observation and assessment abilities.
  • Calm, patient, and respectful communication style.
  • Deep understanding of child-led, hands-on learning.
  • Commitment to authentic Montessori practice.
  • Reflective mindset with a desire for continuous improvement.

Desirable Criteria

  • AMI Montessori training.
  • Experience working in a Montessori environment.
  • Paediatric First Aid certification.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
